To often we focus on offense, so today we are gonna focus on defense of the DLR guard brought to you by Jits magazine and Renzo black belt Shawn Williams.

ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND

This was yet another big weekend for the Vicente Junior De la Riva Team. This weekend VJ along with several other blackbelts from the 3G family had a Seminar with over 80 people in attendance. This was followed up the next day with De la Riva Team promotions of the following:

Sean McEntee, Mindy, Jake Goff, Adam Ziemnicki, Adam McClure, Brian Clouser, Mike Maker, Jay all got blue belts and Instructors Lance and Kail were promoted to brown.

We are excited to announce that Fadi Khouri, black belt team 3G and Vicente Junior, 3rd degree black belt under Ricardo De La Riva will be two of our instructors for the seminar. Both these guys are top level instructors and competitors.

VJ SEMINAR

Professor Vicente Junior will be teaching class at the PA Academy on June 28th! It's a good time to come try it out if you've never trained before. Class is free for all Vicente Junior Jiu-Jitsu Team students. New students get a two week free trial & students who train at other schools are more than welcome to come train with us for a mat fee.

HUGE WINS AT THE MARYLAND OPEN

De la Riva team took home the gold in more than one way this weekend. Lead my Mestre Vicente Junior, De la Riva team demolished the other teams by more than 400 points. Check out the results here. Great job, and congratulations to all the competitors!

SEMINARS AND COMPETITION

 VJ's Academy in Brazil recently hosted Mestre De la Riva for a seminar. The turnout was huge and DLR Black Belts from surrounding cities came by to show their support. Take a look at the pics here!

MESTRE DE LA RIVA AND HIS REVERSE DLR SWEEP

Check out this great great reverse De la Riva sweep that can be used when you opponent tries to pass your guard with a knee slide. Simple, yet very effective!

De la Riva Open guard pass

Another great technique from Mestre. Passing the open guard with ease is the name. Mestre shows you a two on one lapel grip to easily pass someones guard with little strength and maximum efficiency.

DLR Guard Drills

This is a a great exercise as a warm-up or for any beginer. It will help strengthen anyone's guard game. Watch the master in action at his Spain Affiliate.

De la Riva v Royler Gracie: The fight that meant everything!

This is part one of the fight between Mestre Ricardo De la Riva's and Royler Gracie for the “Cantão Cup.” De la Riva won by sweeping the Royler with his trademark guard. This was Royler Gracie’s first competitive defeat as a Black Belt. After beating Royler, De la Riva's highly effective guard techniques were simply called the "De la Riva Guard," which is currently used by the top fighters in the world to this day. This is truly an amazing fight and its great to watch each fighter attack and counter.
